Prof Ennis completed her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at UCL in 1974 and then undertook her PhD project on nerve growth factor (graduating in 1978). She performed post-doctoral research in London and Germany before being appointed as a Lecturer in Clinical Biochemistry at QUB in 1989. She was appointed as Professor of Immunopharmacology in 1999 and retired December 2015.
She has extensive experience in research (published over 150 peer reviewed publications, with a Research Gate RG Score of 42.61 and an H Index of 36) and a significant national/international reputation in her subject area.
Her scientific expertise is recognized by the EU where she regularly reviews applications previously for FP7, now Horizon 2020 as well COST Actions.
She acts as a scientific Expert for German Government and reviewed their National Centre for Lung Research.
She was the elected President of the European Histamine Research Society (1999-2003; re-elected 2003-2006).
She is an elected Honorary Member of the Polish Histamine Research Society as well as the European Histamine Research Society.
She has served on several National and International committees.
She is Visiting Professor (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine), where she helped establish a highly successful Summer School.
